Evolución y registro fósil: hacia una perspectiva más amplia
Resumen
Evolution and the fossil record Towards a boarder viewpoint.
Palaeobiology has made three relevant contributions to the modern evolutionary theory since its renewal during the second half of the twentieth century: (i) as a consequence of the punctuated equilibria theory, species can be considered as individuals; thus, macroevolution is partly decoupled from microevolution; (ii) the research on the organic form has been one top achievement of modern palaeobiology, which put an accent on development against adaptationism (some contributions are at the cradle of evo-devo), and (iii) the study of mass extinctions and their causes are the last exploit of palaeobiological research. A more internalist, directionalist and punctuational conceptions arise from these new issues. In addition, a more holistic position is adopted by many palaeobiologists facing the prevalent reductionism.
Key words. Fossil record, macroevolution, genealogical hierarchy, biomorphodynamics, evo-devo, extinction, Internalism, punctuational tempo, Holism.
